The gentle Bumble bee

I came home from work today to my landlord and her father murdering the bumblebees that live under my front porch a giant can of raid and soap and water they were applying to the dark entrance crack right under my porch was a battle ground. The Bumbles were not going easy or happy. “Bumblebee’s don’t sting you know.” “I don’t know what they are but I don’t wan em”, she says matter of factly and it is her house. So eyes watering up from the sting of raid against them and the heartfelt angst at my friends being destroyed I move to go into my apartment, past the dead and smashed bodies, they reminded me of ignorant children I quelled my rising anger, after all I need this bungalow. I am not ready to move again so soon. I feel like a sellout.

I go into the house and throw my things on the couch, take off my shoes. Stare out the window and close them all, the smell of raid is thick in the living room and in my throat it feels like I am the one sprayed and choking. I light some candles on the nature table and peel off my clothes now raid infused and change quickly.

I go back outside and say meekly ” I think I am having an allergic reaction to the Raid can you please stop spraying it?” They are done now though. I hope my mentioning that Bumblebees don’t sting and are in fact good for nature might have made a small ding in their armor of ignorance. The old man (he’s in his 90′s) grew up on a farm he should know better.

I can’t really say all that I want to these people, as I said I don’t want to move. The gypsy lifestyle is not for me. I am a Bumblee myself and I have made my nest here, built my colony and do not plan to leave it any time soon.  The Raid can image is stuck in my mind I hate that smell, it reminds me of my father who was just as ignorant and nature hating as my landlords.  The first chance I get I am going to go out and hose that stuff away but they know me… they will be watching.  I am a known trouble maker and supporter of fringe environmental issues in this neighborhood. My garden club is looked at as if we were a bunch of teenage hooligans or crack dealers. We meet at my house and there are slanted accusatory looks by my landlady. We are no doubt up to some nefarious hippesque terrorism to support spraying no dump tags by the street drainage again or picking up old furniture on the street to repaint and sell at our yearly nature orgy fundraiser. The old lady gangs in Monty Python spring to mind as she stares at us out her backdoor. The girl and boy scout events I hold in the backyard are equally looked upon as bothersome and freakish. Terrariums? “What you want to save plants in there for?” she asks one morning as I am setting up.

I sound harsh. As I mentioned it is their house really, like the bumbles we are merely squatters in our own fashion. Ones that pay a pretty penny for a close to good schools and downtown location but never the less squatters. I don’t even try to negotiate the area is much coveted.  I miss Pewaukee, there was a greater Nature love and vibe there. It is a bit harsher here and a faster – do what is easier – pace.

I might have to wait till nightfall to covertly wash away the Raid and it won’t matter they will be watching it now.  I need to go to the back and make sure my spiders are secure – there are several I watch while working, they live right there outside my office window, they have become friends to me, their giant webs spanning the window to the bushes in three foot waves that glisten in the morning light.  Last year the landlady took a broom to the webs there stopping when I screamed in horror when I came into the room and saw what she was doing just outside my window. We never really spoke about it. She just stopped and I just stood there and stared at her. “I like to watch them spin their webs.” Is all I said. She sort of stays away from our side of the bungalow on that side now.

My skin feels blistered from the Raid. I can only imagine what the Bumbles must feel. My heart just aches for them. The kids are at a sprinkler last day of summer party. I am thankful they are not witness to the slaughter and ignorance.

We watched Tarantula on one of the Elvira type movie shows last week – Svengooley  http://svengoolie.com/  and I really think the world is ready for another giant killer bug movie.

I went outside just now to see if the coast was clear and grand-dad was right there siting on the porch all smiles and smashing Bumbles as they came out of their hidey hole, he’s not even letting them escape. As if they would want to live there now. More idiocy.

Yes, yes…a big big bug movie. I think this might be my fall project. I am if nothing else inspire.  Sci-fi channel here I come. I want Robert Rodriguez to direct.

I just found out contrary to what I have been telling people Bumble Bee’s do sting. I hope they are not out for revenge.  (The girls sting, not the boys)

“Sting.” That’s the working title… do you like it?

Feeling it… Heat, summer and the inspiration of Kates

There has been so much Kate of late I have taken to naming all of my work Kate and I expect there will be more before this Kate storm blows over. At least for me. I have been working as usual on my little masterpieces of flesh and spirit. They keep me busy. And the writing goes well, it is like a best friend that greets me in the mornings, I will miss this enough to start a new romance right away I think. I already have ideas.. all of them with the working title Kate. The heat is especially blanketing this summer. It’s everywhere. I am thinking of Iceland and Sweden and the Great North up above us. That is how I am staying frosty, a battle of northern designs waging against my usual french country yearnings.

Taking a few days off to read blogs and do some research. I was lost for hours in Design blogs today and The theme for Indian Summer and the whole next year is Butterflies.. they are sometimes Fairies you know. My last netflix dvd is the movie Fairy Tale: A true story. Harvey Keitel, is genius as Houdini, everyone in fact is amazing. You should watch it or rewatch it.

Royal Wedding post tommorow(ish). We had so much fun and it has been nonstop baking ever since April.

Ayn Rand and Anthem vs Animal Farm – George Orwell.

This week after Sunday Morning
I stayed tuned in to watchFace the Nation
and a well written rant or two by Bob Schieffer and found myself just mesmerized by his witty and sardonic truth saying about the new (old) Ayn Rand philosophies running rampant (allegedly) in the hearts and minds of many in Politics today. Where it can be said that I do not dislike Obama, though to me the Reps and the Dems are the same pary with different ties…I have not really been a fan of Rand as her feelings that the poor are nothing but parasites makes my skin crawl. I was always taught that we are only as good as our weakest link, but that does not mean we pitch the weak in the trash heap, cut their heating oil or deny them birth control. Balancing anything on the backs of children or the elderly or even people who just are having a hard time of it makes about as much sense as giving people who already have more money than they know what to do with more money. If you are making money off of people, if you are reaping from the masses then you should give back to said masses. Carpetbaggers, Flim Flam men, Snake oil salesmen these are the sorts that get rich selling manure and yet refuse to help plant seeds for the future. The Earth, our world, our people and all of nature is just a commodity at their going out of business sale.

Yes I believe we should have some balance, we can start with the oil companies and their record profits. They remind me a bit of giant Pig mutants sitting on their mud thrones and complaining about the people that give them all the slop they are so happily wallowing in.

Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself… All men are enemies. All animals are comrades.” – ‘Old Major,’ Animal Farm

Still not sure why all my Youtube linkage died, dies or just is not showing anymore but I left it hoping I will figure it out. Till then…

Everyday is EarthDay…

Feels like it anyway, we have been celebrating Earth Day since the start of April and I really did for a moment just stop and realize that everyday should be Earth Day. *waves her hand in a royalish gesture towards the cats in the office as if they can bring this about..* – Neck deep in the whole royal wedding too so that was an interesting flavor this year to add to the whole Earth day obsessing.
The majority of this year has been in cleaning up, picking up, noticing trash and recycling. The wee ones are not so wee and are on the path of needing a bit more challenge in their celebrations and their awareness has just bloomed on how much waste and neglect and avarice there is in our world (still can’t seem to move them past the toss and drop stage where they are oblivious to socks, dishes and toys they strew all over but thats another story). We have a long day of nature walks, crafts and hopefully some sun in our lovely Wisconsin neck of the woods. I hope your Earth Day was filled with inspirations!

ACK and still fighting with the new Windows 8 which is like herding cats with the haneous compatibility viewer filter. I really wonder sometimes what Microsoft thinks about and if the heads of that company call up the people who package toys and anything from China, late at night and they all just lay in bed and laugh and giggle and speak in soft whispers about how fun it is to frack with people. I can totally see them doing just that.

This looks pretty neat for May… Is it already almost May? The time is going fast.

Fly like an Eagle…or nest, that’s okay too.

In my own nest we  have been obsessing over the Decorah Eagle Cam, the Bald Eagle nest where a mated couple of Eagles are attempting to raise a family of three little Eaglets and it is beyond interesting with the wind noise and the little Eaglets popping out from time to time out from under mom and dad. http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474979222572

There is a huge following too.. Schools, Nature groups, average Jills and Joes. Someone should get them a sponsor and feed all the money to Nature Conservancy.

I have been working on a Sci-fi story about Globilization and shared Mythology. It is brutal and reminds me that the biggest monsters most of the time are just humans with a bit of lust and greed. http://www.globalization101.org/

The world grows smaller as our dreams grow larger and more desirious.

I always think of Zardoz for some reason when thinking of globilization or the now banned in China –  The Time Machine by H G Wells.

The globilization of politics and fashion and materials usage and the wars that will come between the consumer and the corporation. It’s something to think about. Shared wars and the profits from these campaigns are becoming the standard. We don’t even blink or notice most of the time that we are spending billions on these things. Time keeps on slipping….

I loved the Youtube movie First Orbit I hope you got a chance to watch it.

Globilization is not a bad thing depending on who is in control of the big blue marble… The people, or the corporations… They are not, one in the same.

Don’t break the chain…

Claire from loobylu.com one of my touch stone mommy places for inspiration went away. She hasn’t really gone away, she is just taking a very long and needed break, I mean she blogged for years non stop. Her place was always one where I went to get refreshed and to gather focus and study how other artist moms handle the everyday. Other than that I have been exploring the web gaming world and learning much about the future of games and gaming technology. Drawing and painting and even writing, though mostly really sappy poetry while organizing all my children’s things into smaller and smaller containers. Part of my year of organizational pushes. So far slow going. I have been reading a lot too.  Books, real books…though I find the whole electronic book thing quite interesting.

In pass it on fashion Claire posted something she had found through Life Hacker about Jerry Seinfeld’s creative process… I love anything that helps and truly the though is very inspiring.

“He [Jerry] told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker.
He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”
“Don’t break the chain,” he said again for emphasis.”

This really is a brilliant idea.
Oh? Have you noticed how everyone has a zombie story or that zombies are quite the monster of the day fare? Their everywhere.

The book (s) of the moment for me is A room with a view – rereading all E.M. Forester. I loved A reliable wife http://www.reliablewife.net/ . The best read I have had in a long while.

I am ready for the long Wisconsin winter to be over. Hope you are safe and warm and dry wherever you are.  I hope you are all having tulips!!

Current addictions: Flowers, Second Life Lycans and 3d building, Hawaii, House flipping, Horders, television, Wii Yoga, Hulahoops and Netflix and of course Mommy blogs and Cake! Off to catch up on some of my favorite reads.

Cooking with Dog.

I was actually intruigied by the whole “cooking with dog” title – amazing craftsmanship in these videos, they make it look so easy!

Man ….I have missed blogging….

I have been addicted to Second Life, Moving….Painting and learning photography. I joined a Graffiti gang…lets see…moved, did I mention moving?  … Goddess I hate moving…I hope you have all been well…

my love from the front line.

I have completely forgotten how to do all this.

HBP

50 mn Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince sneak from France. Fantastic!

Banksy and others…

A personal favorite of mine. I have believed for the last thirty years that graffiti is the Art of our time. I love the more political art but am a fan of the tags and the doodles. My all time favorite is Train Art. If I could do it again I would be stenciling cows and coal framed with poems on all the Canadian Pacifics I could.

I know…naughty.

Love the rats with all the cute expressions. Go Team Banksy.

Like gramma says ‘pretty is as pretty does” same goes for Art in a big way.
